Nicholas Hawksmoor’s great church of St George had reached near dereliction in 2002. Works are now completed which included roofs, stonework and glass, opening up the crypt for use, and all services including underfloor heating. Hawksmoor’s Lions and Unicorns were also re-created to restore the tower to its original design. Consents were obtained to comply with a very tight timetable. Contract value approximately £6m.
